A very good and insightful article. What I did miss was that once you investigate the people in power, there is a lot of nepotism in Sri Lanka. New rule: One member of an entire family can be in an important position in politics only. No one's brother or nephew or niece should get their hands on an empowered seat. It does not only look bad, but group think is actually the enemy of a well-functioning democracy.
Coalitions among parties is better than one group in power all the time. If after every election two parties can form a new government and at least one of them is different from the two parties before, then that would be better for everyone. The mistakes will be smaller because past mistakes will get uncovered and not linger for too long.
Make clean ship by having parties and none of them in the majority. Make coalitions fresh after the elections, and disucss the agenda then and there for the next two or four years.
