Answer: this is not a democracy, but a duopoly in which the voter thinks he or she is important, but in most cases isn’t.

Let’s compare systems, as for instance shown in the following example:

It shows that the US does not give all its voters equal play. Only the winners are at the table, and among the winners a majority makes all the decisions. Basically, that is majority-of-the-majority rule.

In proportional voting, there is only one level of majority, because all voters are represented by their own choice at the decision table. All are present. Not here, though, and that should be talked about by everyone.

We need a new system and the US Constitution is already asking us to put proportional voting in place, today, at the local level. A good start.
