Capitalism is ultimately controlled by our politicians because they have the power to regulate. Who we elect but more importantly how we elect is therefore essential and makes for either good, mediocre or bad capitalism. In the US we only have a duopoly, we are not a real free democracy. So, it is no wonder we see a warped outcome in our capitalist version. It is much better in the other nations with a full-color democracy. Here is how it works for us in the US:
We walk into the voting booth and we were had already if we thought we were free to choose whoever we want. It was predetermined already. Our system contains aspects of a shell game. The voter made up his or her mind beforehand for number one or number two. The voter did not have a free choice to begin with.
The good news for us is that the US Constitution already demands the better voting system be in place at the local level, today. That’s a good start. Fed and State have more leeway. Basically, it works like this:
We should have proportional voting at the local level, but we are blinded by red and blue. The shell game succeeds, and we walk away thinking all was fine.
Capitalism is fine. But if we have a dumb political system controlling it, then capitalism can get warped, giving too much power to some, while taking it away from others.
We have red and blue, so we are missing out on being represented for our green, yellow and orange issues and needs. And it shows. Read the article if you want to understand what we can do today to make this a better capitalist society.
