Our minds treat them the same way.

Facts and beliefs are the same for our brains. They are given equal space and they sit at the top level of everything we know. No one can make a belief tumble and fall unless the brain agrees that the belief is not top notch after all. Same for facts, they tumble but only when they turned out to be not as solid as first thought.

This article is about the top positions we give to facts and beliefs in our minds.

Rightfully, facts sit in top position, though we all have been around the block a few times to know how on the surface of things we can find a truth that when digging a bit deeper can reveal a shallowness we did not suspect at first.

That’s why we love science. In science, many folks look at the same stuff and discover the same outcomes. The more folks find the same outcomes, the greater the chance these facts remain in highest position.

Beliefs, though, are also thoughts that are found in that same highest position as facts. Particularly when individual after individual expresses the same belief, the greater the chance it remains in highest position. Beliefs cannot be proven, but they may envelop a larger reality than what can get captured by facts. Plus, beliefs can get shared.
