I grew up in a real democracy, so when I moved to the United States I was very much surprised that this wasn't a democracy while everyone was saying it was a democracy.

The reality: the United States is just a winner-take-all nation, a two-party nation, a nation in which 40% of the voters go home empty-handed.

Abortion policy in my home country was complicated and difficult. Now, it has some of the lowest abortion rates in the entire world.

The Christian party realized they had to agree to some form of abortion, but they wanted to keep the time period for a legal abortion as short a possible.

Their coalition party also realized they had to make abortion available and wanted an as large as possible time period.

They compromised:

* One part was an abortion period that was not extensive.

* One part was full sex education on all schools, no exceptions, mandatory for all 11 year olds.

The reason the abortion rate is one of the lowest in the world is education. The children are educated before they make decisions that can lead to wanting an abortion.

In the United States, both parties get little done. Not many people notice that because life goes on. Meanwhile there is a lot of talk coming from the politicians and often it is about what they want to do and most often it is not about what they are accomplishing. Like USA politics, the months before the elections are far more exciting than the months after the elections.

Because the politicians don't get much done, the judges make many of the decisions. That is not a good sign for a democracy. It means this voting system is not functioning well or it is not functioning at all.

The USA fits in right between autocracies and democracies.

Autocracy -- winner-take-all -- Democracy

In a democracy, the voters are represented.

In the USA, only the majority is represented. No one else.

Therefore, it is all about the win, because just one can win, and therefore it is all about spin.

Spin is… telling the world that the USA is a democracy.

It is not. It is just a two-party system. Don’t continue the spin.

Visit a nation that is a real democracy (Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany), stay a while so you can see how their politicians deal with affairs more pragmatic (don’t expect a perfect world).
