I think it is time to overhaul our local voting system.

Having a mayor is fine, but a City-Manager is a more honest approach if we want to call ourselves a democracy. We vote for the council once already, so are we stupid to vote yet again for the same city body to do its work? Today, mayor and council can get into conflict with one another, so that is basically your vote fighting with your vote.

A City-Manager works for the people, works for the council, and cannot claim victory over anyone else.

Besides, our winner-take-all system leaves far too many voters unrepresented. That goes for Ranked-Choice Voting, too, because it is nothing but makeup and a smart way to prevent runoff elections. It is still same-old winner-take-all and therefore unfair to a large segment of New York voters getting nothing after they voted.
