If Democrats were really the party for the people, then they would demand real voting reform, not the little things they want to prevent the Republicans to get away with in their version of madness. We are a sorry democracy. We got nothing but this two-party system to show for. When are we going to become a real democracy? You know, the one that fits the dictionary of all voters being represented? We don't have that. Our system sits between a dictatorship and a democracy.
The US Constitution already guides us to the local level of city and county where we should have the better system in place (declares the 14th Amendment): equal representation.
We can get that at the state level without a problem (but the US Constitution is more muted about the state level, giving the states the freedom to do as they please). We can get it if we want it.
At the federal level it is much harder, because the US Constitution has a lot to say about the federal level. To change those words and directions requires a full amendment.
Better to work our way from the bottom to the top.
I can't believe how our system was never upgraded to the USA 2.0 version in these last centuries. We got bits and pieces, but the old divide-and-conquer is still at the heart of our voting system.
Our nation is based on full competition in every other respect. But somehow the two political parties do not need to compete fully and rather have voters compete with voters for the win. We have a free market, but not free elections; they come in restricted and districted forms.
