In religion, we have a top-down structure. We start out from the top, the big reality, and work our way down to the detailed level. That way, we can always start out from Unity.

Political Dictatorships are top-down structures. That way, there always is unity (and the enemy will have a harder time penetrating the nation to steal it away from us). But it also suppresses diversity and freedom.

With science, we have a bottom-up approach. We collect the details, the data, the evidence, all that small stuff. Then, we build and build and build larger levels.

The surprise? There is no Unity at the top level.

Gödel showed us 100 years ago already that there is no ultimate unity. It is mathematically not possible. Yes, Gödel was a religious man.

Spinoza was a religious man as well who, 400 years ago, showed that God is real but can only be approached as an abstract.

In science, abstracts and metaphors play their role in communication, but the essence is the data and the evidence.

In religion, abstracts and metaphors play their role in communications, but the essence is the reality that is not here, the unity that does not exist at this level.

Undermine a nation's top-down approach and the nation will tumble.
