Not our cooperation with one another is flawed, our voting system is flawed. So you are truly mistaken that our system works. Did you know that a voter in district elections has half the empowerment of a voter in proportional voting? We can take the first steps to implement change today.
The Founding Fathers are with us because the local level is not allowed to have a separate-but-equal voting system in place (sorry, but Fed and State can). We are segregated in districts first, and only then declared each other's equals. That means an automatic warping takes place that is not beneficial for voters overall.
The fortunate setup of the US Constitution means we can change the voting system. Our current system establishes a political elite that can ignore us. Splitting ourselves up and each getting our own political elite that can then ignore us in our separated places is not a good solution. We have to become a modern democracy.
Once we have a modern democracy in our cities and counties, everyone will wake up to smell the coffee. You, too, Lucy. Today, so few people are aware that the voting system is keeping us locked in place and can be blamed for our growing apart. We complain about the two-party system, but we are not aware how huge the voting system's restriction and warp is.
