Of course the universe is infinite because the most important aspect of the universe is space.

Space does not move, space does not interact with anything, space has no borders.

Matter is not infinite as we all know. The planet may be super large compared to our own little sizes, but finite it is. The largest mass in the universe is finite.

Seen energy is finite, but unsee energy is also finite. We cannot have an invisible kind of energy floating around the same size as infinite space. All invisible energy had to get broken up in the materialization process as well.

The largest collection of energy, seen and unseen, is a galaxy. Anything greater and there is a disconnect among all.

If we want to envision God in this all, then God, too, has to be seen as broken up in sections. Part of the original God ended up becoming linear matter (neutrons and protons), part of the original God ended up non-linear matter pulled into the damaged linear reality (i.e. the electrons to overcome the positive charges of the protons), and part of the original God remained as God was before minus the two other parts of God.

Big Whisper theory.
