One problem of our two-party system is that it creates these nuclear hard cores of one color. People can then end up embracing one political party as if it were a football club. Anything the football club does, lousy players included, is always fine. The other football clubs always wrong. In one word: hooligans.
The cause is the two-party system because it indoctrinates people to think there are just two powers, plus needing to pick one over the other. The system is dumb, and your examples show that the system makes people dumb.
I added this image to show how people in the United States think, politically. I took out the yellow from this picture, and just red and blue are delivering us the political picture. Of course, we can all see the birds. We all agree on the birds. But we are mistaken about the colors. We see a dominance of red, while blue is clearly influencing the red and sometimes strong all by itself.
In the next image, I put that yellow color back, and it turns out that red and blue are not the dominant colors. Green is the dominant color, and we had no idea. In our two-party system everything gets spun toward optimizing the win. Green is spun so it benefits red or it benefits blue. We cannot express our Green. Verboten.
