Our nation is based on a divide-and-conquer system. The winners are laughing when the divided fight the divided.
We all desire We The People, and when we have good representatives, they can actually put decent We The People legislation in place. But when push comes to shove, divide-and-conquer wins the day.
I love how honest you are in your article, and I believe it is time to remove the barriers that keep us apart exactly at the time we are one. Let’s look in the mirror indeed.
This is us, to the left. We are segregated in little districts and we fight each other over that one seat. Classic divide-and-conquer. Our power structure reverberates in everything we do. When lucky, we meet people that believe in We The People.
To the right, the actual We The People system. It has no substantial voting minorities that remain unrepresented like we have. With us, 49.9 percent can come out to vote and go back home empty handed.
With eight seats, the We The People system has almost 90 percent of the voters getting their pick. Minimum.
The good news?
We can change the local system today because the US Constitution is already demanding it.
I see that your heart is in your article. Thank you. But our hearts are not represented well enough in our voting system. We have a structural defunct system in our nation that hurts especially the voting minorities (of up to 49.9 percent of the voters).
Women are voting minorities. African Americans are voting minorities. Asian Americans are voting minorities. Homosexuals are voting minorities. We are being exploited on our differences. But there is one agenda item we should all embrace: voting reform. We need better representation. Not just red, not just blue. Cities often have just one color occupying all the seats, can we believe this is a democracy?
Let’s use our anger well. Let’s not point it toward one another, but at the bad apples. Our divide-and-conquer system is a bad apple.
The local level is actually a fantastically safe place to learn how the other form of democracy works. And the US Constitution is already demanding it.
Thank you for your warm and heartfelt article. Let’s make good use of it.
