Our system at heart discriminates, Tim. The US Constitution gives us hope for immediate change today, see the image below:
Thank you for your article and exploring historical moments of change. Hopefully, today is the beginning of changing of our system because it contributes heavily to the outcomes we see today. Not just racism, but injustice, neglect and politicians ignoring We The People for the world to see. Our system can get changed immediately with the help of the US Constitution.
The US Constitution gives A: the Fed and States specific freedoms to take care of their own business to some extent, and B: has the 14th Amendment demanding the better system put in place.
The local levels do not have A and must follow B fully.
That means proportional voting must be put in place, which is the system that in as far as I know ALL political scientists agree is the better system for the individual voter.
But here shown with a simple example, we can all see for ourselves:
Our system to the left has voters vote in these little geographically restricted areas and the minimum level of representation is 50 percent (plus one vote). Up to 49.99 percent can end up not receiving representation of their choice.
To the right, proportional voting. When there are eight seats, close to 90 percent of the voters — minimum — can point their fingers toward the person or party they voted for themselves.
In proportional voting, there are no voting minorities.
Proportional voting basically is: We The People.
Or with this image:
Our system produces two colors, red and blue, and actual colors end up not being represented, like green being spun to be red or blue (to love or to hate).
We were had. In the land of the free, we pick beforehand among the two candidates with the best options, and we don’t pick the one we really want for ourselves. In the land of the brave, we spin our reality to end up saying we are the very best there is in the world.
We can change our crummy and discriminating system today. US Constitution approved. US Constitution demanded. One small step at a time, right where and when we need it, today.
