I was blown away that there was a political-scientific discussion about global warming still raging in the USA when I arrived here in the mid nineties. That was 15 years after scientists in Europe already agreed humans were to blame. I could not believe it. What a horrible political system we have here. Scientists in Europe agreed already in the early 80s that humans were to blame.
The political system of the USA pushed back environmental action for more than 30 years, 40 years, simply because the two-party system does not deliver on the truth. Yes, the USA is vital in the global combat, so the world was waiting all that time for the USA to help push the agenda of the environment.
The USA voting system can be described with these four words:
Power, power, power, truth.
It’s not that its perfect in the EU, but the various European voting systems combined can be described as:
Truth, power, truth.
We lost more than thirty years in the battle against global warming (aka climate change) because we have a system here in which the truth is not the essence, but who gets the win. Big companies manipulated our political system for thirty years (and more). Spin, spin, spin, perfect ingredients for the win (in the USA).
A basic color copier has red, blue, yellow and black ink, and we don’t have that truthful printer. We have red and blue, and then we have “That’s All, Folks.”
Our voting system pushes and spins and pushes and spins some more, always giving the most to the powers behind the scenes. Our political system is never ever about the truth in the first place. It’s always power first, and power second. The truth always arrives late in the USA.
