Representatives are on average five years younger when voted in via Proportional elections than when voted in via winner-take-all. We have the backward system.
Our political system is not functioning properly for us all (never has) and we are now outgrowing the straight-jacket of the two-party system.
Interestingly, the Founding Fathers are not to blame. We are to blame because we let our politicians take us away from the US Constitution so they ended up with more power in their hands than they should have.
The fix is simple, but occurring in an unexpected location. In the US Constitution, powers are handed to the Federation, the States respectively, and the People.
Notice that cities and counties are not given US Constitutional powers, and that is also where the realm of the State and the realm of the People clash.
So far, people have been sitting on their hands, letting the State roll over them where it is actually not allowed. The Ninth Amendment tells governments not to deny or disparage rights held by the People.
The State makes it illegal for cities and counties to have the best voting system in place. And that is the overreach. We have to take our rights back and get that best voting system in place, locally.
It may sound like a small step, but when red-and-blue hog all seats on all three levels of government, then it is actually good to get some yellow inside the picture at one of those three levels.
By taking the warp away from the two parties at our city and county levels, we get to experience politics in full color, something we have not experienced in the United States.
