It is not what you think it is.

How much democracy is too much?

Looking at the world of democracy, it is disappointing how few nations there are in the world that are fully democratic nations. We have an extremely long way to go before the world is based on the voters, and not on special interest groups represented by one or two mighty individuals, by one or two parties fully in control in most nations of our world.

Many people think that democracy is the leading form of organization of our national governments with a few major exceptions like Russia and China. But in reality, very few nations are true democracies.

  • Having an elected president already removes a nation off the AAA list of democratic nations, even when the House of Representatives is chosen in the most democratic manner.
  • Having multi-seat district elections sounds good, but there is a warp involved with this specific kind of voting that pushes a single party forward and leaves the competition fewer options to win seats.
  • Adding political institutions to the mix weakens voter empowerment, so voting for a President and a Senate and a House is a clear recipe for less voter empowerment.
