The Founding Fathers figured it out really well. But... something did not work out as planned.
Thank you, Chuck, for replying, and you are right about the lower ballpark of our getting our representatives.
The Founding Fathers were actually really smart, but they did not expect the subsequent dumb thing to happen.
They did two things at the same time:
* Making sure the Federal government had a strong government (otherwise the nation would fall);
* Making sure the government would not bully the People into total submission.
What occurred was that they put voting regulations in place for the Federal level. Yet they did not put any voting regulations in place for any other governmental level.
What happened, though, was that the Federal voting system got copied & pasted onto the State elections. And subsequently even further it got copied & pasted onto the local levels of cities and counties.
Any bozo can see that one system does not always fit all, but since no one objected it was put in place for the State and for cities and county elections.
Today, however, grassroots organization Local Revolutions is objecting because we want what the Founding Fathers gave us. They gave us a strict Federal voting system and at all other levels the government shall not deny or disparage the rights of the People; the 9th Amendment.
Together with the 10th and the 14th Amendment, we are entitled to fair representation at both State and local levels. That means the bad voting system is out and must be replaced by the good voting system (but not at the Federal level).
Truth be told, the Founding Fathers also gave many freedoms to the States, so the States have loopholes in place to avoid giving us what was delivered by the Founding Fathers. We can get it at State level, but only if the majority of voters in a State want the better voting system.
At the local level, no government is allowed to disparage us. Not a single level of government was given any shred of power that allows them to intrude into the realm of the People. They cannot walk into our homes and say that we cannot cook Brussels sprouts.
