The race to the bottom

The USA sits exactly in the global center.

The gini index shows how within a nation the rich get more than the poor.

  • In blue, the rich take in a relatively moderate amount of their societies, and they share more with their poor.
  • In red, the rich take in the most, and share less.

Take a look at this map with competition at the global level in mind.

Three important nations are found right in the middle (in yellow) of the global reality: the USA, China, and Russia sit right in the center of this balance of economic balances.

There is likely a benefit when a nation desires to be powerful to then also be in the economic center of good and bad. Investors will view the benefits and risks in these yellow nations as balanced.

The red nations are the more risky nations because more of the money is anchored with the happy few who can invest it elsewhere quickly and undermine the local economy. Meanwhile, the blue nations take more of the profits to distribute among all in society, and while the benefits are near-guaranteed, they are spread out over the years to a lower level than elsewhere.

To be a powerful nation, one has to try to be as rich as possible and to provide economic stability as much as possible.
