The Universal Reality Is a Divorce
You probably don’t want to hear about it….
Many physicists have a hard time with Gödel’s Incompleteness Theorems.
They agree on the premise, but they do not like to apply the conclusions to their own work.
In simple terms, Gödel showed mathematically how one cannot use the overall level to declare a truth. Anytime a word is used, it will belong to a specific formal system and not be a truth at the largest context.
- Gödel showed that not even mathematics itself is a completeness. It is a specific formal system, and as such it will follow the rules of that specific formal system.
In plain words, there will be something incomplete that every system cannot overcome itself.
Simple examples are the alphabet, the decimal system, and — humor me with this one — art.
- The alphabet will appoint words, but reach higher and higher and the words become concepts that sometimes do not touch the ground anymore. An example is the word universe, because the word does not point to the overall outcome of universal units. Instead, the word points just to the whole of everything there is. It does not appoint any details. It’s a generic word.
- The decimal system will appoint numbers, but look at the binary system and we get far different meanings for 0 (‘off’) and 1 (‘on’) than in the decimal system: 1 is like unit or unity, whereas 0 is more like nothing or empty/void.
- Art may be the easiest to recognize. Humans use tools like pen and paper, or canvas and paint, or metal and heat, and fabricate a result that hopefully has meaning to the viewers of that art. Art-for-art’s-sake enamors us because we adore the beauty of that what is not natural yet has significance for us. We are touched by art.
Using these abilities, we cannot come to an overall reality in which all these outcomes are true inside the other abilities to express ourselves. The outcomes will be specific, and be most correct inside these formal systems themselves.

Structurally, the largest level is empty.
This means that there once was a prior state in which the largest level had a function, but today that function is gone.
- Write your name on an envelope, your address, your city, country, planet Earth, Solar System, Milky Way, Universe, and hand the letter to the postal person.
The postal person will declare that of the 8 items, only 7 items provided postal directions.
The word Universe has no function for the postal person.
Exchange this example about reality for the question if we live in a situation where marriage is the highest accomplishment in life, or where divorce is the highest reality.
- With a divorce as the largest setting, we can accept Gödel’s work rather quickly. Where the highest spot used to be marriage (one has to be married first before one can get a divorce), today there is no marriage any longer. The highest level was abandoned; it is empty. The individuals are still there, but not at that highest collective level. Each exists now at their own level. All that is real exists inside their own formal system.
- With a marriage as the largest setting, we can see how planet Earth is One. We can even envision how the Solar System is One, even though we have to accept quite a bit of separation among the celestial bodies of our star system. Further more, with the Milky Way, we can still see an activity of pulling everything material together, somehow. Yet anything larger, and we fall toward passivity (for the Local Group, these galaxies just hanging out together) and ultimately dispersion (as declared per the Big Bang theory). Marriage is the highest achievement, but only for the specific level, not the universal level.
Or review this with the word group. When there was a group, it had the highest value possible. But now the group dispersed, disbanded. The individuals are all there, but none of them can reach the highest level that belonged to the group.
Group today: 0
Former members today: All
Reality is now with the former members, emphasis former.
That is our reality. That is why Gödel’s work is important. It tells us about the divorce that took place some 13.8 billion years ago.
We don’t know much about the quality of the former marriage. But we do know that it was not sufficient enough to prevent that divorce.
