Umair, you have to practice what you preach.
Right where you think capitalism is the evil source, you are the one that is empty inside. We all need to look in the mirror and that is why I am still clapping for your article because you are delivering much truth. But why oh why are you bringing that falseness with you as well?
I know the answer, based on your writing. You state so because your heart is in the right place. You do want a better world for all.
The answers are also found in your article. Why do the Europeans live longer than Americans? They have capitalism, too, you know.
The answer lies in many of them having healthy democracies.
That’s the point. We do not have a democracy in the pure sense of the word. We do not pick our own representatives. We have a game going on in the voting booth. Only the winners end up in the seats. Here is an image to show how it matters:
Our system to the left; their system to the right.
Yes, there is a still a top and a bottom, but you can see that the distance between top and bottom is artificially high in our society, whereas the difference is far more natural in their societies.
Here is another example about the two systems:
Just two seats on a council, and the difference in pyramid height is already explained. We are majority driven. We have majority selection for single seats and we have majority decision in the chambers.
They have a system where all voters are reflected in the chambers much better. Already with four seats, 80 percent of the voters — minimum — can point their fingers to the one they picked themselves. Already with nine seats, 90 percent can do so. Their system uses majority decisions only once.
We exclude representation in our system because we apply majority rule twice. Call it fascist if you wish (because it is a mechanism that promotes the needs of the haves and suppresses addressing the needs of the have-nots), but let’s just simply call it demeaning.
Our voting system is mean.
That is not an opinion. That is a fact very easy to prove.
Here is how many people come out to vote (1945–1999, a real long time to establish this data):
We are last because if you vote four times and you don’t get your representative, then why bother again, right? Why go pay for something, not receiving anything, and then still repeat that a couple of times?
The good news is that the US Constitution shows a way out, today. Please read it. Start writing about the system because it manipulates the outcome in a bad way for our world.
Keep writing, Umair, but you have to get more honest with yourself. You cannot be angry for indeed very good reasons, and then bring the Wizard of Oz of your choosing to the forefront. If you are angry because of the truth, then you have to bring a solution based on the truth. You owe that to yourself.
