What it particularly shows is that our political system is a failure. With just two parties, we get an orangy red and a greenish blue, and you better not veer too far away from either love/hate colors because there is no alternate color available.

A good article, Eric, and you put many points in their right spots. Still, with a two party system very few of us can make it to the middle of the street and stay there. Almost everyone I know crosses the street at one point or another, simply because we were trained to not occupy the center. We have no role models that occupy the center (anymore?) and that means we should do something about that.

Unfortunately, the Founding Fathers only allowed a tiny small door to walk through to get the political reform we need. Yet we are taking that doorway. In Florida, two cities have now received a Constitutional Invocation declaring that their voting system violates the rights of the people as delivered in the Bill of Rights. The grassroots organization is called Local Revolutions.

But it is baby steps. Most people cannot get to the middle of the street and stay there. These baby steps need support from people like you. You seem to be able to articulate the middle position well.
