You describe well, but you do not point well, Stephen. In order to end up with good societies we have to examine the systems in place, and I can already recognize that you do not have a good grip on the word democracy, even while pointing to its failings.
Domination occurs before we even get to the voting booth in our voting system. We are segregated in districts first and that means we are involved in a single round of divide-and-conquer first. The first punch is not for the voters.
It's very easy to see. Majority rule is applied twice. And nobody says anything, that is the miracle. Everyone thinks it is on the up and up when it isn't. You don't discuss it because you do not see it properly. I hope to change that.
Voters can pick a representative in a district with, for instance, 60%. Seems fair. But, next, all these winners make a decision among themselves with 60% also, and then we have a minority decision.
0.6 x 0.6 = 0.36. No doubt about it. This is a minority decision being sold to us as supported by the majority of the voters.
As you can imagine, one group benefits when the democracy we have is actually not a delivered democracy but proclaimed as such. Not voting according to the majority's wishes, as we do, means an elite group ends up on the beneficial side of things, and another group ends up never expressed at the table.
Yes, the group in the exact middle is needed for winning the majority in the first place, so they will be represented. Yet the elite can walk in quite easily and change the outcomes the way they like it. They won't always win, but they have the means to adjust when that happens. The ones that need our democratic help cannot get to the table.

Help is on the way. The Founding Fathers gave us a gift.
It is a small door toward real democracy, and it is only toward the local level. But seeing full color at the smallest level will allow folks to see how a true democracy functions.
The US Constitution empowers three entities: the Federal government, the States respectively, and the People. Notice that cities and counties are not empowered per the highest document in the nation.
That means that cities and counties cannot segregate us in districts. They are not allowed to do that.
You can join us. We are Invoking cities. The first step is that they are being told that they cannot violate the US Constitution and that they are currently violating it. The second step comes later, after many cities received their Invocation and the second campaign starts.
Come join us. Help spread the word. See if your city is on the list.

Proportional Voting gives voters twice the power that we have in District Voting. It's true.
