Your second position is an unnatural position.

Design demands a Designer is a choice you filled out, seemingly with not tolerating any other position next to it.

Let's find the scientific word for God (God is not a scientific word), and one can easily see that this word is Energy.

I hope you see right away what I did. I neutralized your position that Energy must have a Designer.

Yes, we can say that energy is directed. Yet that does not mean there is automatically a Director.

The Universe must have a cause is right, but again the words are not the best words. Matter must have a cause.

The universe is a term we use to point to the collective of all there is. Space, for instance, is part of the universe, but it is infinite, it has no borders, it does not move, it does not interact with anything. Space is a phenomenon, meaning it is real, but it does not have any attributes of its own. God would always be smaller than Space because Space is the ultimate infinity, while God has to be a someone or a collective or whathaveyou and therefore always of a limited stature.

Matter must have a cause, and once we focus on this, then we get a better view on God as well.

Energy does not get lost, so we can start out with Energy before there was any matter. Matter is then a transformation of energy, and not a creation. Yet it also means that the Energy, potentially intact prior to the appearance of matter, is definitively not intact anymore after matter arrived.

Energy today exists at two levels because matter must have overcome a unifying principle to become matter. One cannot have a fundamentally different outcome from what was before unless that what was before broke (in parts).

So, God can be declared, and we can declare God as All during the prior state of the universe, but we cannot declare God as All in the current state of the universe because God did not sustain as seen in the original state.

Said differently, we are not created by God, we are made of (parts of) God. God sacrificed godself and in the process we have a universe with an enormous variety as outcome.
