I am glad you mention politics because you are from a nation with one of the best forms of democracy. This should not be underestimated. The United State, the United Kingdom, and many very important nations are not true democracies. In a real democracy, the political parties compete for the votes, but in the United States, for instance, the voters compete with the voters instead about who gets to be the single representative of all. Winner-take-all means shutting up voters in this clash with other voters. Naturally, this benefits those that do not want a strong and logically operating government, and particularly big business and those desiring deregulation benefit.
